Quick Meals for University Students

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

University students are always on the lookout for quick and easy meals.  Most don’t have a lot of money, especially those who are living off-campus and have no desire to eat in the cafeteria.  In this case, cheap meal alternatives are a must, especially when fast food and pizza becomes unappealing.student-food

Ramen noodles are one of the most traditional cheap student meals.  All it takes is some boiling water, a package of the noodles, and the seasoning that comes with them.  Boil, mix, and you have a complete meal for an incredibly low price.  If you’ve got a bit of money to spare, you can add some chicken, vegetables, and more.  Note, however, that ramen noodles aren’t the healthiest of options.

Soup is also a pretty cheap meal, and it’s great on cold nights.  It’s healthier than ramen, too, and there are many different flavours available.

Sandwiches also make good meals for students.  Bread, cheese, and meat generally come in a good enough quantity that you can get several meals out of them.  You can also make toast and grilled cheese sandwiches with your bread or just eat it as is for a snack.

Eggs are another good and fairly cheap meal option.  You can cook them in several different ways, adding some variety to your meals.  You can have omelettes, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, and more.

While we’re on the breakfast theme, pancake mix and biscuit mix is usually pretty cheap and can provide food for days or even weeks if you don’t mind having the same thing several times a week.

These are just a few quick, easy, and cheap meals university students can make in their own tiny apartments (or even dorm rooms in some cases).
